Amber is a fossil resin that aids in self-healing, absorbing and transforming energy…

Our Team

“Joyas de la Tierra” or “Jewels from the Earth” is the name I’ve given to the line of jewelry handcrafted by our team of artisans; the culmination of each member’s creativity and commitment as we work together, supporting each other’s gift for imagining, drawing, designing and making wax models, casting and releasing silver from its molds, shaping and polishing amber and assembling all the parts to create pieces of jewelry that we feel reflect and represent us all.

Our Team

The collection is called “Joyas de la Tierra” because we are passionate about our planet’s treasures, from natural ecosystems to varied and ever-changing human cultures. We enjoy seeing that our handcrafted jewelry speaks of love for life in all its forms; evoking or recreating life’s most precious moments.

“Joyas de la Tierra” is also so-called because the materials we use in crafting our jewelry – amber, natural gemstones and silver – are all indeed treasures from the earth. Our collection’s most fundamental element is Chiapas amber, with its colors, warmth and light; the fascination as it merges its spirit to enliven a silver setting.

From the moment I first discovered it, I have been hopelessly captivated by Mexican amber’s heartwarming beauty. This resin awakened my heritage, with a familial passion for jewelry flowing into my own design training and the two intermingling, complementing one another through the sheer pleasure of creating earrings, necklaces and other imaginative accessories.

We can easily say that each piece of jewelry we offer is unique, because every piece of amber is surely unique in its form and features. But ours is not signature jewelry as some understand it, pieces created by just one person, and never replicated.

Instead we work as a team, and starting from an image or concept, recreate our silver settings, combine them with selected gemstones, and let the amber itself tell us “just where it wants to go”. For this reason we replicate models, though in limited quantities, as the sources of amber and various gemstones allow.

Flora MariaDesigns in silver arise from an idea, an inspiration, a flash of imagination. I truly like sketching collections or families from the same concept, so that individual pieces will enhance and complement one another. To recreate the silver settings, I use the lost-wax method, and enjoy shaping the wax to create original molds. For more complicated pieces I count on support from our excellent pattern makers and silversmiths.

Creating silver prototypes is an aspect of the work that I particularly share with my daughters. Their participation, their sketches and ideas, are important to the collections’ richness and versatility. Ananda and Satya’s contributions are so indispensable to our team, and our line of jewelry, that several of the collections they’ve designed bear their names.
